Preparing a child for loss

Be the first to like this

Audience: parents

This information booklet aims to help you prepare and talk to a child or children about your death. It’s for parents or guardians who are near the end of life. Partners, grandparents and close family members may find it useful, too. It may also help you talk to children who are already dealing with the death of a family member.

The booklet includes suggestions on how to:

• tell a child or teenager you are going to die soon
• understand their reactions
• help them cope
• explain what will happen

This booklet was written by Macmillman Cancer Support and the childhood bereavement charity, Winston’s Wish.
