In 2005 the Scottish Government launched the National Strategy for Survivors of Childhood Abuse, Survivor Scotland. The aim of the Strategy is to raise awareness, improve support services and enhance the wellbeing of survivors of childhood abuse. One of the priority areas of the Strategy is for people with a learning disability. The 2013 review Scottish Government review ‘Keys to Life’ highlights the significant health inequalities and much reduced life span faced by people with a Learning disability. A significant theme in that review was to highlight the need to shift the culture and keep people with learning disability safe.

This report, funded by the Scottish Government explores how health and care professionals can support people with learning disability to disclose issues of concern using Talking Mats.
