Me First Fundamentals

The Me first fundamentals is the Foundation Level introductory course to all our training, except for Conversations about Safeguarding Concerns.

With eight years experience in training professionals, Me first has condensed the fundamental principles of children and young people-centred communication into a two-hour online module. This module is designed to support people working in health and social care to build on their existing knowledge and applied skills in communication, no matter what their level of experience.

These Fundamentals go beyond basic communication skills and lays the foundation for our advanced courses. We focus on complex and interesting topics and encourage self-reflection that supports each individual to work on their own skills in every-day practice.

What will it cover?

The Me First Fundamentals will explore the key principles which incorporate:

  • Child and young person’s developmental abilities
  • Involvement and shared decision making
  • Power and influence
  • Working with difference
  • Capacity
  • Consent

We achieve this through a mixture of theory and discussion-based activities. Taught by experienced practicing professional and young trainers, who bring the young people’s voice throughout the course.

Who is it for?

This course is suitable for all health and social care professionals in both paediatric and adult services working with children and young people. This includes those working with complex physical disabilities, mental health issues and learning disabilities, and is applicable to both newly qualified and very experienced practitioners.

We also offer shorter bespoke Me first Fundamentals courses and workshops – please get in touch to find out more
