Me first Advanced Communication in Child and Young Person Centred Care
What will it cover?
The Advanced Communication in Child and Young Person-Centred Care Course provides practical resources and skills based learning that bridges the gap between the theory of child and young people centred communication and what happens in everyday practice. This course was co-produced with children, young people and health and social care professionals and is co-delivered with young people.
The four-hour online, interactive course includes:
- A short introduction to the Me first 6 Communication Fundamentals – Developmental level, involvement and shared decision making, capacity, consent, power and working with difference (including the Human Graces – John Burnham)
- Working through the components of the Me first Communication Model to support conversations in challenging situations and using real life scenarios.
- Resources to support communication with children and young people
- A space for reflection and discussions
The course content can be applied to communication with: Children and young people from 3 – 25 years of age; for those with additional needs such as learning disabilities, communication, hearing, visual and other sensory impairments and those with neurodiversity.
The theory, resource and skills can be applied across all areas of health and social care, including mental health.
Who is it for?
This course is beneficial for all health and care professionals who work with children and young people clinically. The course is multi-professional and benefits from the diversity of roles and backgrounds that participants have. It would also be of interest to those working in educational settings and for parents/carers.
